'MUSIC IN OLD KRAKOW' FESTIVAL

By 2008, the Festival was organized by Cracoviensis Capella, today by Cracoviensis Foundation. The Foundation is a public benefit organisation and has to meet specific objectives. The foundation took a difficult task to build a special object, which could be dedicated to all the musical environment of Krakow. Their mission is also to promote Polish musical culture. That is the reason why in whole program of the festival, which lasts two weeks, we have various concerts- both Polish and foreign. The festival is also trying to promote young artists who are starting their careers. Therefore, the festival is accompanied by mainstream called 'Young Talents'.
In 2014, we draw our attention especially to artists from Ukraine. It is associated with the idea, which came from the musical environment of Lviv, in referring to the cultural traditions of our nation, to create a similar festival 'Music in Old Lviv'. This idea met with enthusiasm and promise to help from the President of Krakow, the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage and the Mayor of Lviv. Capella Cracoviensis Foundation undertook organizational support. This year, we create the begginings of "Music in the Old Lviv".
At the festival in Krakow, all Lviv artists will perform music associated with the roots of Ukrainian culture (Choir of the Cathedral of St. George, A Cappella Leopolis) and Ukrainian contemporary music and world classics. Monographic concert event will be dedicated to the art of "Lviv Mozart" by Franz Xaver Wolfgang (son of Wolfgang Amadeus), who created and operated in Lviv. This will be Polish premieres.
The festival will start with a recital of Chopin Performed by Grigory Sokolov and will end with the world famous violinist from the younger generation, appearing for the first time in Poland, Valery Sokolov with the Beethoven Academy Orchestra under the direction of Tadeusz Strugała. Also interesting is the fact that we will also have the opportunity to host the Leipziger Streichquartett and Odhecaton vocal ensemble from Italy and their rare Gesualdo da Venosa music.
